Protection

In recent times the pandemic has forced us to live unusually sheltered lives, even by our standards living on the Isle of Man in the middle of the Irish Sea. This work is a recognition of our place in the world and my mother’s stoic endurance in her 94th year.

I find themes of fragility, protection and survival re-emerge in my work and this image demonstrates how precious health and love are in our everyday lives. My mother died a few months after this image was made from a sudden stroke, which made this commemoration all the more valuable to me.
